Skin care for cats

Supports wound healing and skin problems

Cats play, climb and take great pleasure in exploring their environment - which can sometimes result in injuries, or in fights with other cats. Unfortunately, injuries and wounds to the skin are not uncommon for our kitties: scratches from scuffles and scrapes from roaming in dense woodland or from thorns. But cracked footpads can also develop into a major problem, just as itching, eczema and hotspots can become unpleasant for your cat. Burns are particularly painful if, for example, cats can't resist running over hot hobs.

Cats' injured skin usually regenerates itself, but healing is usually more effective and less problematic with the help of suitable skin care.

Skin infections in cats - Dealing with non-healing injuries

Discovering fresh injuries that are bleeding often initially causes great concern among cat owners. While many superficial wounds, such as grazes, are mostly harmless, even the smallest injuries, such as those caused by thorns, ticks or flea bites, harbour the risk of infection. Such injuries can become inflamed, spread over larger areas of skin and lead to wounds that are difficult to heal or even chronic. In such cases, it is essential to look after a cat's skin properly with the right skin care. Excessive licking of itchy areas can quickly turn a small injury into an extensive, ulcerated and weeping skin infection - also known as pyoderma or hotspot. This particularly affects cats with thick and long coats, where the skin dries poorly and is unable to breathe properly, increasing the risk of such infections. Specially formulated cat skin care is very important for such cases.

Regardless of their size, inflamed wounds and skin infections must be disinfected and treated immediately.

Our tip:

Injuries and skin infections, both large and small, can be difficult to recognise under a cat's coat. For this reason, it is advisable to check your kitty's skin regularly and apply skin care if necessary. Signs of incipient infections include redness, swelling or weeping patches of skin on your cat. If you are unsure, it is advisable to consult a vet immediately to rule out serious infections or more serious injuries.

For acute injuries to the skin or wounds in cats

For optimum treatment of your cat's wounds, it is advisable to always keep Skin Clean+Care (spray) gel in your pet med arsenal for initial treatment. Available in two versions, each with different attachments. Depending on your cat's sensitivity and personality, you can use either the dropper attachment or the spray attachment.

After the initial wound treatment, promote further healing and skin regeneration with a special wound ointment for cats such as our SkinCare Wound & Healing Balm.
